Would you use a scientific matching service?

I was doing some research recently, looking into the different types of ways that are available to help people meet other singles. Most of the results I came up with were the typical dating sites, some of them varying with different features and set ups. One thing I found that captured my attention and had me research much more about it is; scientific matching services.

I know I can’t be the only one who hasn’t heard of this until now, so for those of you who are just as curious as I was- I’ll explain. Apparently this type of dating service is usually done in a facility. A person fills out a type of ‘survey’ will some random questions and some personal questions. This survey was made up using scientific date, so you’re asked to fill it out as honestly as possible.

Once you complete the survey, your information is put into the computer. The computer takes the date and finds a match that is right for you based on this date. It might not be an immediate match, but sooner or later you’ll get a call that your match has been found. From what I read, the success rate for this type of service is in the 90 percentile. It can be somewhat expensive to take part in the program and there’s always the fear of never being called with a match (just kidding), but for those of you who find it to be interesting, I think it is well worth a shot.

Get out there and unwind

Sometimes the single life can certainly get depressing. I don’t care who you are- even if your anti-love, there are times when you hear a certain song or watch a certain movie and your heart just aches for closeness to someone you love. Family, friends and even children don’t feel the love void that is there when you don’t have any romantic relationships. We all like to pretend that we don’t mind being single, but honestly after a few years- it does get rather lonely.

So what do you do to cheer yourself up during this time? My remedy is quite simple and it definitely works. When I’m feeling particularly lonely, I make sure I get out of the house with some fellow girlfriends. I like to get a group that is both single and in a relationship- because well the singles can share my pain while the girls in a relationship can remind me why it is sometimes better, or at least easier being single.

Get out with the girls and go let go for a while. Have a few drinks, or if you don’t drink, just go out for some coffee and have some girl talk. I however, prefer to get out there, have a few drinks, talk to some guys and remember- a good relationship is hard to find and meeting a guy at a bar is never a good idea. I encourage you girls to follow my advice. I know it can be temping that pop ‘The Notebook’ in the DVD player and drown your sorrows in a tub of chocolate moose tracks ice cream, you’ll feel a lot better after getting out of the house.

Cure your single blues

Those of us who are single are typically okay with it generally. However, there are times when it can really get lonely and kind of have us feeling somewhat down. What do you do when this feeling creeps up out of nowhere? It’s easy to get stupid and think of past love, maybe make a call or two to fill this loneliness for a little while. But, that generally that just leaves us feeling worse than we did to begin with.

When I am having a particularly difficult night, I tend to get out there and mingle with other singles in my area. No- it doesn’t mean that I’m going to have any type of relations with this person; it’s just good to get out there and talk with others who are in the same situation. It makes it a more pleasant situation and an opportunity to meet some people who can turn into good friends in the future.

I encourage others to get out there and do the same thing. Go out to the bar, be safe but have a good time. Sometimes the best time to meet someone is when we stop looking. When you’re just out there enjoying yourself without looking to meet someone, you just might stumble upon someone who sparks your interest.

The bar, the club, the local book store- wherever you can let go, relax and have fun. We may think that sitting home, watching some movies and ‘cheering ourselves up’ is the best thing to do when we’re feeling lonely, but this just makes the situation worse. Get out there, have fun and meet some singles in the area.

Facebook singles?

I’ve heard several friends and acquaintances talking about meeting other singles through Facebook and it made me curious to see how popular this method really is. I myself have never thought of this. I’ve only considered Facebook to be a great way to communicate with family and friends, keeping each other updated on what’s going on in our lives. I’ve always wondered why I get constant requests from guys I don’t know, but I always deny these requests thinking they must have me confused with someone else.

Well, according to those I’ve talked with, Facebook has been a successful place to meet singles throughout the world. I guess that these people ‘seeking singles’ browse profiles and find ones that offer their information to the public. If they find their information to be appealing, they send a private message and then a possible friend request. The message is simple, stating that they liked their profile and are hoping to chat.

From what I’ve gathered using Facebook to find other singes has been successful for men and women alike. These people have met up with several others their met through the online program and some have even begun successfully dating. I wonder if this new method continues to grow in popularity and produces good results- will we no longer need the dating sites that were very popular over the past several years? I know that many people aren’t crazy about paying the fees to use a dating site and using Facebook lets them see all the information about a person conveniently gathered in one place.

Creating a singles group in your area

What I’ve noticed, at least in my area of Pennsylvania, there are almost no single groups available. I’ve been to other areas and talked to other singles living in those areas. They seem to have several local singles and have had much success with them. This made me curious of how someone would go about creating a singles group in their area and this is what I came up with.

The first step to creating a singles group would have to be finding a location to hold the group. You can hold it at someone’s house, but a common location I’ve heard of is a church basement. You can typically meet here for free or just small a small rental fee for that day. A basement is usually equipped with several chairs and tables also, for things like bingo night, so you wouldn’t have to worry about finding them.

The second step is to gather a few of your fellow singles to help host the group with you. You can host it yourself, but it’ll be easier on you to alternate with others. You can then sit with these people and think of different activities you can do during the group to help the singles learn more about each other.

Get the word out about the group by passing out flyers and telling everyone about it! The group may be small at first, but it is very likely that the group will grow quickly as long as you advertise. Plus, satisfied singles are sure to tell others about it. You can even use a collection basket at each group in order to gather a small donation to be used for future snacks and beverages for the group.

Do you use online dating sites?

One thing I’ve noticed is common among the singles in Pennsylvania is a general love for online dating sites. I’ve heard and read several Facebook updates about people finding their one true love through these websites- and for only $19.99 per month! Golly! I became somewhat curious as to what occurs on these online dating sites so I decided to go under cover on a few and see what I came about.

Well the first singles site I signed up for was Plenty Of Fish. This was my first choice because well- it’s free. I’m really not looking to spend money talking to someone who could be older than my grandfather realistically- but to each their own. Anyway, upon activation of my account, I looked around to see what kind of ‘fish’ were in that sea. Not to my surprise, I seen many people I knew from college and a few from around the neighborhood- thank goodness I used a fake name and picture.. although I’m probably the only one on there who ever had that idea.. not.

Well, in my first day active on the dating site, I received over 50 messages. About how gorgeous I was (thank you photobucket), that I sounded like a ‘real good person’ via my 5 second bio containing my name and favorite color. Within the next 5 days I received well over a thousand messages- some of them repeated, some of them sounding angry because I didn’t respond.. yikes. I can understand how people could find someone on those sites, if they take a lot of time and sort through the mess.. but it’s just something that is definitely not for me.

Meeting other singles

When you are single, it can sometimes be difficult to meet others around the area who are also single. I’m from Pennsylvania, so I’m the firs to know that- basically the only places to meet other people are the bar or club. When you think about it though, how much would you like to date someone you met at one of these locations? I know that I certainly would not. If I’m going to meet someone, I want it to be someone who doesn’t spend the weekends in party mode.

Being single myself, I’ve found a few different locations that are great for meeting other singles, without loud music blaring and beer flowing. Coffee shops are very popular in PA. There are both chain and privately owned coffee shops on almost every corner. This is a great place to meet other singles. It may not be the easiest place, because everyone is not loaded with alcohol, but it’s been quite successful for many people.

Another great location in Pennsylvania is the local bookstore. We have several great bookstores that have a coffee area where people go to read, hang out and drink their favorite beverage. The one store near my house has a talent show night that is very popular-people come and play the guitar, sing, read poetry. It’s a really good time in my opinion. I always see the girls and guys conversing and I think many people have met their girlfriend or boyfriend while spending time at this bookstore.
